The new dtc-1.4.0 changes header files and no longer defines fdt32_t and fdt64_t types. That breaks building qemu-1.5.2 (or older) with "fdt" USE-flag giving messages like:

The workaround is to downgrade dtc from 1.4.0 to 1.3.0 before building qemu, then it can be upgraded back to 1.4.0

There are several patches available against qemu, but so far none were picked up:
