Description Michael Cook 2013-08-12 19:05:48 UTC
HandBrake requires dev-libs/libappindicator

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make sure dev-libs/libappindicator isn't installed
2. emerge media-video/handbrake
Actual Results:
Fails to build due to missing dependency

Expected Results:
HandBrake builds.
Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-13 14:08:22 UTC
If it's supposed to be in RDEPEND, it should be in DEPEND as well.
Comment 2 Ian Whyman (thev00d00) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-13 16:20:00 UTC
Built just now for me fine without libappindicator.

Can you post build logs?

Thanks!
Comment 3 Michael Cook 2013-08-13 16:45:20 UTC
I see what happened, I had an older dev-libs/libappindicator which I assume had a different header name or something and the config file set _USE_APP_IND, which then failed to build.

So I guess, maybe a use flag for indicator would be a good idea?
Comment 4 Ian Whyman (thev00d00) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-16 08:31:32 UTC
So you do have libappindicator installed? Which version?

Can you post your build log?
Comment 5 Neil 2013-08-27 12:14:34 UTC
Unsure if this is related as original post is unclear and subsequent requests for build logs not produced anything but I'm currently having trouble building =media-video/handbrake-0.9.9

The Build log is at http://bpaste.net/show/126675/

Comment 6 Neil 2013-08-27 12:24:21 UTC
I forgot to mention I don't have dev-libs/libappindicator installed at all, its not pulled in by handbrake.
Comment 7 Neil 2013-08-27 12:33:09 UTC
...and installing it doesn't help with building handbrake, fails with the same error.

Neil,

That is not the same issue, I suggest you open your own bug.

Also for future reference it is poor practice to put build logs on paste sites as there will be time when they are no longer available. Please always attach files directly to the bug report.

Cheers!
Comment 9 Neil 2013-08-27 13:50:06 UTC
Ok, sorry for the clutter, will open a new bug.

Thanks for the quick repsonse.
Comment 10 Tom Wijsman (TomWij) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-09-07 16:12:40 UTC
Will check this out once you confirm your other bug #482674 and then fix them both at once.
Comment 11 Tom Wijsman (TomWij) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-09-16 12:43:58 UTC
Please sync the Portage tree an hour from now and try again.

I see no indication that this package causes a build failure; the build failure given in the build log is the one in the other bug, that one was resolved.
