While building admincd-stage1 with catalyst, I'm getting this error.
I'm attaching the log from catalyst:

what version of autotools ?  looks like aclocal/etc... didn't actually run ...

I was having a similar problem with media-gfx/gqview

I found that if I (using bash)

source /etc/profile
source ~/.bash_profile

my build worked.

So, try logging out and back in again.
