Some pkgconfig files depend on others, e.g. /usr/lib32/pkgconfig/xft.pc contains a line "Requires: xproto". Without xproto.pc being installed, pkg-config for xft fails:

$ PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR=/usr/lib32/pkgconfig pkg-config --cflags xft
Package xproto was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xproto.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'xproto', required by 'xft', not found

At least the following files appear to be missing (i.e. they are referenced by others that are installed by emul-linux-x86-xlibs):

The emul-linux-x86 packages have been removed.
