the SONAME has changed and there has been discussion upstream to make sure this is correct.  there were some other bugs too.  otherwise, it's mostly done on my system.

i was waiting on an ABI discussion in upstream (since gd-2.1 changes SONAMEs).  but the discussion fizzled out.

It looks like this will be needed in upcoming gnuplot-5.0 for fonts to work properly...
