Starting Rawtherapee in terminal gives the following output:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  basic_string::_S_construct null not valid
Aborted
I'm using the latest version of Gentoo Hardened kernel.

My mistake - system encoding issue probably caused this Rawtherapee problem. Other applications did a better job of informing about the cause - (encoding configuration problems), but this was not a Rawtherapee bug.
