Please try with a stopwatch :) - is it exactly 25sec? Then it's a dbus timeout... i guess i've figured it out. saw a couple of timeout messages regarding avahi (not being able to start). so i removed cupsd from default rc. now it doesn't freeze anymore. sorry, no, the problem's still persists. as you said it is a dbus timeout that's logged. after removing avahi (zeroconf) the dbus timeout messages in (/var/log/messages) vanished. though i still have the freezes after login for about 35 sec Does this issue still persist with latest KDE? yes, it does. it happens usually when i start reading documents (PDFs mostly) in okular Do you have multiple displays/monitors?
