Seems to happen with any version, stable 32bit x86 machine:

 * Failed Running autopoint !
 * 
 * Include in your bugreport the contents of:
 * 
 *   /var/tmp/portage/net-analyzer/rrdtool-1.4.7-r1/temp/autopoint.out

Updating to sys-devel/gettext-0.18.2 solved the problem for me.

1) Please post your `emerge --info net-analyzer/rrdtool' output in a comment.
2) Please attach the entire build log to this bug report.

1.4.7 is gone, cannot reproduce with 1.4.8 or 1.4.9.  Closing as obsolete.

I'm pretty sure it's gettext that needs cvs (or git) and not rrdtool.
