Description Alex Murray 2004-04-06 00:22:11 UTC
When installing from minimal live cd, after setting up partitions and network etc, i go to download a stage tarball using links (or links2), but as soon as i go to follow a link from the /main/en/mirrors.xml page, i get a kernel panic, with something about one of the sk????.c files i think..
sorry i cant be more specific - havent been able to write it down...

using p4p800 mobo with inbuilt 3c2000 (3c940) NIC - able to be initialied fine using sk98lin...

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. modprobe sk98lin
2. ifconfig eth0 etc.. etc..
3. links http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml
4. highlight link to follow and hit enter (or right) and get kernel panic

Actual Results:
system froze with kernel panic

Expected Results:
fetched the next page

Running ASUS P4p800 with Intel P4 2.4c processor - hyperthreading enabled, but
not using smp kernel (actually got a kernel panic when trying to load smp-
nofb, and and smp kernel just hangs on a blank screen)

We got quite similar reports about this module. Its behaviour seems to be rather strange sometimes. Anyway, since the problem appears in various different environments I consider this as a general problem. -> Upstream
