After upgrading sys-fs/udev-200 vmware init script failed to start:
# /etc/init.d/vmware start
 * Starting VMware USB Arbitrator ...                                                                                                                                      [ !! ]
 * Starting VMware services ...                                                                                                                                            [ ok ]
Failed to initialize                                                                                                                                                       [ !! ]
 * ERROR: vmware failed to start

digging in problem gets:
# /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-networks --start
Failed to initialize

sys-fs/udev-200 and app-emulation/vmware-workstation-9.0.2.1031769

Reproducible: Always

I have the exact same problem:

# /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-networks --start
Failed to initialize

There's no option for more verbose output, nothing written to the system or kernel logs. If I do an lsmod, I see all the vmware modules:

I have the following versions of the vmware packages installed:

vmware-workstation-10.0.2.1744117
vmware-modules-279.2-r1
vmware-tools-9.6.2.1744117

My vmware-modules comes from the gmt-vmware overlay as the ones in portage won't compile for kernel version 3.14.2-gentoo.
