Summary: gnome-base/gdm-3.6 with >=media-libs/clutter-1.14 - UI elements in gdm are unresponsive to user input when opengl is set to xorg-x11

Description Amit Prakash Ambasta 2013-05-02 05:34:49 UTC
While clutter <= 1.12.2 works fine, releases of clutter from overlay or clutter-1.14* releases from portage tree lead to gdm to not respond to user input while using xorg-x11 for opengl. It still work perfectly fine with ati/nvidia though

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge clutter > 1.12.2
2.eselect opengl set xorg-x11
3.Restart gdm
Actual Results:
Clicking the user box or pressing return does not prompt you for a login/password

Expected Results:
Clicking the user box or hitting return should lead to gdm requesting the user password.

I cannot reproduce this problem with Intel card:
# eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1] nvidia
  [2] xorg-x11 *

This needs much more information like the graphics card do you have, drivers you are using, Xorg.0.log...

This has happened to me with both intel and ati cards, will attach xorg.logs for both later today
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-05-02 13:43:57 UTC
And what gdm version are you running?

xorg logs against intel

Logs against xorg while using intel. Current version of gdm being used: 3.6.2
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-05-03 07:14:00 UTC
I am using gdm-3.8... no idea if maybe clutter-1.14 only works with gdm-3.8 :S
Comment 6 Amit Prakash Ambasta 2013-05-03 07:17:54 UTC
If that was the case, no reason it would work with proprietory drivers. This hangup happens only with xorg-x11 set, not with fglrx or radeon
Comment 7 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-07-27 11:52:17 UTC
Try with gdm-3.8.3.1
