 * ERROR: dev-python/imaging-1.1.7-r3 failed (install phase):
 *   dohtml failed

I notice that the revision bump from -r2 to -r3 changed the HTML_DOCS setting from title case "Docs" to lower case "docs". I guess that's to blame. The ChangeLog gives no indication that this change might have been intentional.

fixing that does indeed resolve the issue
