LFTP Version 3.0.0 has been released today.
New major version. SFTP support, advanced FTP protocol features support, mirror improvements and more.

It worked for me. Just copy the ebuild from version 2.6.11 under
lftp-3.0.0.ebuild

New Release: lftp-3.0.1 

Copied over the ebuild worked beautifully on x86.
Please bump in portage for all the people that dont follow the development of this sweet sweeet program.

Fixed in portage now.
