Trying to install net-libs/telepathy-glib-0.20.1-r1 with dev-lang/vala-0.18.1 returns errors like "error: expected end element of [...]" . 
Only after unmasking/emerging vala-0.20.0 did the emerge of telepathy-glib run through successfully.

This is not possible, telepathy-glib was added to the tree on 21 Dec 2012 and vala 0.20 was just recently added (and is masked) and you are the first one to complain. The problem must come from something else.

Please add your emerge --info and full build.log.

I can also add the logfiles for the successful installation of telepathy-glib, if this helps.

The latest version gobject-introspection-1.36.0 .
