Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-03-29 17:51:02 UTC
I still need to manually press Super+M to open it as I don't find how to push to get it opened as should occur per:
https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.8/more-core-ux.html.en

"For GNOME 3.8 this action has been updated to react to the force with which the pointer is pressed against the screen edge. Only a determined push will cause the Message Tray to open. This enhancement avoids accidental triggers and is quicker and more immediate."

Reproducible: Always

Go to the bottom of the screen with your mouse pointer, when at that position, go even further down with your mouse pointer until the Message Tray shows up.

Does this need explicit documentation? It can be opened from the Activities screen by a mouse click, the shortcut key is also deduced from the keyboard shortcut settings. If so, where should this be documented?

Well, as you can see in:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696866

It wasn't so clear to me when bumping directly from 2.32 to 3.8... maybe I wasn't too clever, but I have also needed to explain this to other people in my family. Also, I plan to add a note to topicons extension to let old tray icons (like pidgin, dropbox, deluge...) that are hard to use if handled in "upstream way"

Regarding upgrade guide in general... would be nice to get help with it. I was planning on directly put it in wiki.gentoo.org instead of using the "old" guidexml way (that I also hate a lot :P). I asked swift about when gnome project pages will be migrated to wiki by his script, but told me that it would still take some time as docs team is now focusing in other pages.

If anyone has time to start to write the guide, I will really appreciate it. If you want to take Gnome 3.6 guide as a start point, maybe you could try docs-team scripts to migrate it to wiki and, later, adapt it to gnome 3.8. For that, Sven pointed me that scripts are placed in his devspace under home/public_html/tmp/proj2wiki

Thanks!
