Description Alexander Mezin 2013-03-16 13:46:23 UTC
Currently Guake checks for compositing only on startup. So, if compositing manager started later, Guake doesn't detect this and runs with "fake transparency".
This is most annoying on Xfce, where Guake always uses "fake transparency" if started automatically on startup. The attached patch fixes the problem. I tried to submit it upstream, however, seems that Guake is not maintained now.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Disable compositing
2. Run Guake
3. Enable compositing

Or just add Guake to autostart in XFCE
Actual Results:
No transparency

Expected Results:
Transparency enabled

The URL: is only giving "404 Page Not Found" -> https://github.com/Guake/guake/issues/564

And I see activity on upstream git:

https://github.com/Guake/guake

Some from less than month ago, so the project is alive, but this was never reported?

So, this is an unreported and unreviewed patch that adds a feature, enhancement level bug, I'm inclined to close this as RESOLVED, CANTFIX, waiting for the reporter to send this upstream at:

https://github.com/Guake/guake/issues

Please reopen once it's reported.
