Use hwids-20130309-r1 instead of hwids-20130309. hwids-20130309 had misgenerated hwdb.bin file, hwids-20130309-r1 fixed it. Thanks, Samuli. I just updated to the -r1 release of hwids, and it works fine. So, it seems that it is indeed related to udev, and not hwids. I have the same problem. Packages: sys-fs/udev-198-r1 and sys-apps/hwids-20130309-r1. If I change the group to lp then everything works fine. Problem is resolved with =sys-fs/udev-198-r2, thanks to Samuli.
