There should be a message pkg_postinst to alert the user that he or she needs to add the their user to the scanner group to be able to use the scanner.  I noticed that there is a message displayed if xinetd use flag is enabled, but for no other case.  Also note that adding the user to the usb group is not sufficient since the udev rules center around the scanner group.
