In older versions of the boost libraries, there was no given install procedure, and so a(n extremely) hacked method was used to "manually" move the relevant files into place. However, a little noted feature of 1.31.0 is the presence of a new set of install procedures. See http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started.html#Build_Install. This, with a little bit of manual work, should be a much more stable and forwards-compatible way to install.

can you please look if 1.32.0 ebuild is more like what you are after?
