Could it be that you're running out of memory? You should see something (OOM killer) in the kernel logs (dmesg) OK, thanks for the hint. It was not a lack of membory, but a lack of disk space in /var/tmp/portage (that I mount in tmpfs). However, I spotted now that the ebuild warned me about the situation: There is NOT at least 4 gigabytes disk space at "/var/tmp/portage/www-client/firefox-18.0-r1/temp" but it's nearly impossible to see it, unless you stick in front of the monitor during every emerged package :) Probably a behaviour more like libreoffice, that stops the emerge oepration if build requirements are not met, would be a more nice approach.. however, problem solved, many thanks. just a small hint (for devs) to comment #1 on https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452748 |
