my /var/tmp/portage is on a 6Gb tmpfs, as libreoffice and firefox checks before the run if there is enough space, icedtea should too, yesterday I've upgraded to icedtea-7.2.3.4 and it seems that 6Gb is enough, I had to increase it to 8Gb.
it took me 2 compilations to update the pkg and I think size check should be performed to prevent emerge that will fail beforehand.

not quite, I have 6Gb in my tmpfs and it still failed.

The apparent size is 5.8 GB here so you probably run out of inodes. Whether it's an exact duplicate or not, fixing one without the other is ridiculous. So marking as dupe.
