Trying to build GCC 4.6.3 with "go" USE flag enabled fails on libgfortran with a ** [bootstrap-lean] Error 2

Builds fine without 'go'

Instead of saying sorry, you could reflect on why you would want to put a single file in a tar archive and compress the result, instead of skipping the tar step entirely and simply compressing the original file.

Action:
bzip2 </path/to/file>
Result:
/path/to/file.bz2

thanks for the syntax, an old guru always said to tar your attachments regardless... but he wasn't gentoo. Will do next time, thanx!
