Since new emerge gimp cannot startup.
During User installation 3rd dialog gives following message:
"/var/tmp/portage/gimp-1.2.3-r2/image//usr/share/gimp/1.2/user_install does exist.
Cannot install.

Installation failed contact system administrator"

Can be worked around by creating /var/tmp/portage/gimp-1.2.3-r2/image directory
and then:
cd /var/tmp/portage/gimp-1.2.3-r2/image
ln -s /usr usr
ln -s /etc etc

I dont have this problem, even with a new user.  I also do not have a
"/var/tmp/portage/gimp-1.2.3-r2/image/" directory.
