When clicking on
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?part=1&chap=5#installing_portage

there is no section on installing portage.

Thanks, the section was moved further down (next chapter) so the next step here is to configure the compile options.

Fixed in CVS, will show up on the site in an hour or so.
