I got the following error after:
1) emerge --update
2) emerge --depclean
3) revdep-rebuild

octave: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

However, after:

emerge --oneshot  media-libs/glu

everything works fine. I therefore suspect that octave should depend on media-libs/glu.

Not media-libs/glu but virtual/glu.
