I ran `env ebuild /var/lib/layman/udev-overlay/sys-fs/udev/udev-9999.ebuild clean merge` on my system with /bin/sh symlinked to busybox. It hung with the following line:

Cloning into '/var/tmp/portage/sys-fs/udev-9999/work/udev-9999'...

Use git-r3.eclass instead
