The proposed solution is in the tracker. If this is an autotools based package, and '--disable-silent-rules' doesn't work, you can try to add MAKEOPTS+=" V=1"

adding V=1 to xorg-2_src_compile()'s autotools-utils_src_compile call worked here without ebuild modification. I think x11 team would work for the eclass change.
