Description Randy Andy 2012-11-12 17:45:54 UTC
There is a new version available (7.0 beta).
Would be great if you could add it to the tree.
Eventually this fix the no voice/sound problem i described here:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-837033-highlight-googleearth.html
Thanks, Andy.

Reproducible: Always

I gave the URL above, then you have to click on download for example.
Difficult for me to give the right international (en) download address for everybody, cause a redirection of google here in Germany.
Must be similar to the one standing in the ebuild of the older version, I presume.

http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/sci-geosciences/googleearth/googleearth-6.2.2.6613.ebuild?view=markup

The current ebuild looks fine, with the exception of missing the "i" in "linux" on line 14.

However, it fails the digests, even if the same link to the .deb files works.

The cause is that the preview release is on 7.0.1.8244, and that is the version linked in the .deb links in the ebuild:
http://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_amd64.deb
and/or
http://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_i386.deb

If you want the v6.2.2.6113 "stable"/"previous" release, you end up with this .bin file:
http://dl.google.com/earth/client/advanced/previous/GoogleEarthLinux.bin

Here's the link to the download page:
http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html

Right under the textfield with the EULA, there is a link to choose "advanced setup", where the user may select between the beta (7.0) and stable (6.2) verisons.

Switching the option to 6.2 removes the option to select architecture or prefered packaging. Hitting the "back" button from the download page for the .bin restores the visible options, but all options yield the same download link.

To get the full version numbers, I had to go to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_earth
