Postgresql shutdown script looks for pid file in:
/var/lib/postgresql/postmaster.pid 
instead of:
/var/lib/postgresql/data/postmaster.pid
(which is where it should be if you run initdb in /var/lib/postgresql/data which
I assume is what your supposed to do since the startup function looks there)
