Hi,

I'm attaching a modified ebuild for xine-ui, which has an added flag 'aalib' to remove the dependency on aalib. Actually, if xine-ui finds the aalib library and headers, it still build it with aalib support, the configure script doesn't have an option to disable it, afaics.

I agree that this needs to be addressed.  A patch has been provided.  What is holding up the removal of this unnecessary dependency from being included and marked "stable"?

The Gentoo maintainers seem to want an einfo warning regarding the inability to disable a dependency. I personally like this as well. An example of how I solved the problem is in Bug 34016 (the last 2 comments). Perhaps you'll get more of a response from the Gentoo team if you take this course of a solution. Hope this is helpful, and I feel your frustration.

Thanks, I've modified the ebuild to print the warning. Hope now the modify can
be commited into portage.

Maybe I'll find time to check this next monday. I'd rather prefer to disable it using some dirty trick instead of just warning that it's broken.
