I run into the same problem. By manually running in the temp work directory it seems that the problem is the presence of a stale cache directory (autom4te.cache). If you get rid of this directory, which has a hardcoded value of 1.11.1, automake can run successfully. # cd /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/work/ragel-6.7 # automake --add-missing --copy --foreign configure.in:24: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.11.6, configure.in:24: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE configure.in:24: comes from Automake 1.11.1. You should recreate configure.in:24: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again. # grep -r 1.11.1 * ... autom4te.cache/traces.0:m4trace:configure.in:24: -1- AM_AUTOMAKE_VERSION([1.11. ]) ... # rm -rf autom4te.cache/ # automake --add-missing --copy --foreign # (successful) Can somebody please post a full build log? I also experienced this bug. Info attached as per comment 2. I note that an alternative fix is to nuke aclocal.m4 and rerun aclocal, this allows automake to complete.
