Component: [OLD] Core systemAssignee: John Mylchreest (RETIRED) <johnm>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE

Description Michael Hampton 2004-03-08 06:00:27 UTC
In kernel gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.3-r2, you cannot tap the touchpad to get a button 1 click. In previous 2.4 kernels which recognized the touchpad as a standard PS/2 mouse, it was possible to tap the touchpad once for a single button 1 click, and to tape the touchpad twice for a double button 1 click. The touchpad no longer generates these events when tapping the touchpad.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the 2.6 kernel.
2. Start gpm or XFree.
3. Tap the touchpad.
Actual Results:
Nothing happens when tapping the touchpad.

Expected Results:
Tapping the touchpad should generate a button 1 click.

Comment 1 Michael Hampton 2004-03-18 12:09:52 UTC
I just installed gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.4-r1 and the trouble persists; I am unable to tap the touchpad to get a button 1 click as I could in 2.4 kernels.

Same thing here. Compaq Presario 2110 US with Synaptics Touchpad doesn't see the "finger tap" as a button click with 2.6.3-r1 -- works on 2.4.22-r7. My desktop is KDE (3.2.1). I *think* -- though my memory is hazy -- that the same thing happened when I tried to run with a 2.6 kernel on the same machine with Debian/Knoppix. So I suspect it's upstream of both Debian and Gentoo.

The sound doesn't work on 2.6.3 either, and IIRC that also happened on Debian/Knoppix. But that's another bug, eh?
