When trying to load the snd-emu10k1 driver, wherever it's from /etc/init.d/alsasound or simply modprobe snd-emu10k1, it fails.
Changing kernel versions doesn't change anything. On the same box I have a working ccrma kernel on a RHL 7.3 install with alsa-driver 1.0.1, working. Emerging version 1.0.3 fix the problem.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install gentoo-sources, configure sound support as a module, compile, install and reboot with it.
2. Emerge alsa-driver-0.9.8
3. Try to start alsasound

Actual Results:  
Here's the relevant lines in /var/log/messages:
