Description Chris Smith 2012-10-06 16:56:32 UTC
Audio with google-talkplugin becomes distorted and noisy under gentoo-sources-3.6.0. Works fine under 3.5.x and previous kernels.

@kernel: Any ideas?

What audio hardware is that?

Did you enable/disable echo reduction in gmail setting?
Comment 2 Chris Smith 2012-10-07 14:37:34 UTC
Audio hardware is embedded Realtek ALC892. No audio problems with previous kernels nor any other audio problems with 3.6.0 outside of Google-Talk. Echo cancellation is on although it is not an echo issue. Will even get garbly distortion when listening to the ring when calling.
Comment 3 Chris Smith 2012-10-07 14:38:49 UTC
Note that the Realtek ALC892 uses the Intel HDA driver.

I should also mention, in order to provide an additional clue where the problem might lie is that the "video" is also distorted. More specifically, as an example, is that when I get an incoming call the little pop-up box announcing the call is visually distorted as well. Backing down into kernel-3.5.x eliminates this. Video is nVidia.

I'm marking this as resolved for now as the problem has disappeared with the installation of kernel 3.6.2.
