Bug 436506

Summary: media-sound/pulseaudio-2.1-r1: does not die after logout

Status: RESOLVED INVALID

Description Alexander E. Patrakov 2012-09-28 14:20:30 UTC
If I log out of a GNOME session, my pulseaudio process does not die.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install gnome-base/gnome-3.4.1
2. Log in using GDM, then log out.
3. Log in as root on tty1, run ps axww
Actual Results:
pulseaudio is still alive

Expected Results:
no processes owned by my user

[ebuild R ] media-sound/pulseaudio-2.1-r1 USE="X alsa asyncns avahi bluetooth caps dbus gdbm glib gnome gtk ipv6 jack orc realtime ssl systemd tcpd udev webrtc-aec -doc -equalizer -libsamplerate -lirc (-oss) (-system-wide) {-test} -xen" 0 kB

I am using systemd. This bug was split off from bug 435042 to avoid confusion of two different issues. This bug is strictly about the fact that pulseaudio does not die, that bug is about gdm-related consequences caused by such lingering processes.

4.0 looks to die for me after some time
Comment 2 Alexander E. Patrakov 2014-02-16 20:41:07 UTC
I am not a GNOME user anymore, so cannot test the bug in its original form. But it is still reproducible with KDE and KDM: pulseaudio stays alive after logout for quite a long time (at least 30 seconds).

[ebuild R ] media-sound/pulseaudio-4.0-r1 USE="X alsa asyncns avahi bluetooth caps dbus gdbm glib gtk ipv6 jack orc qt4 realtime ssl systemd tcpd udev webrtc-aec -doc -equalizer -gnome -libsamplerate -lirc (-neon) (-oss) (-system-wide) {-test} -xen" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)" 0 kB

However, as this has no visible negative consequences now, maybe the bug should be just closed as "invalid" or something like that? Not really sure what is the most correct action.

That is expected:
