Bug 43300 – Gnucash crashes on startup (cannot contact configuration server)

I get the following error when starting Gnucash (1.8.8):

gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit)

I checked the forums and I found that Gnucash needs gconfd-1 to be running. I have Gnome 2, and apparently it does not automatically start gconfd-1. The post said to start this manually before running Gnucash. This fixed the problem.

I looked into adding the line

gconfd-1 &

to /usr/bin/gnucash. This may be a good idea, because this will start the daemon, but if the daemon is already running, it will not harm things.

It may also be possible to modify Gnome 2 to automatically start gconfd-1, but this may be a simpler way.

Adds "gconfd-1 &" to /usr/bin/gnucash wrapper

This simply adds the line "gconfd-1 &" to the gnucash shell wrapper. Calling
this every time gnucash starts will not harm the already running daemons, for
if it is already running, the new one will exit.

This is a patch to the wrapper /usr/bin/gnucash

can you try gconf 1.0.9? it should solve these problems
