This is a seemingly long standing bug (from 2006) which is still valid, see https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=40841

I did attach a patch (basically a rediff against the original patch) against 2.2.22 to the upstream bug report. Please see the above URL for details.

The upstream bug is closed as fixed and the fix for this got merged 9 years ago.
