Please add the output of emerge --info virtualbox and attach the ${HOME}/.VirtualBox/VBoxSVC.log file of a failed start to this bug. The content of /proc/cpuinfo of your host system would be of interest as well. emerge --info virtualbox Portage 2.2.0_alpha110_p35 (default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/kde, gcc-4.6.3, glibc-2.14.1-r3, aComponent={VirtualBox} aText={The object is not ready}, preserve=false Did you use some unofficial virtualbox ebuild to compile the package? I neither added "consolekit" nor "policykit" USE flags to the ebuilds. No. Are there any unofficial? (In reply to comment #5) > Are there any unofficial? AFAIK only the ones from my private overlay (poly-c). But currently I only have 4.2.0_{beta,rc} ebuilds in that overlay and didn't add consolekit/policykit USE flags there either. Unfortunately the VBoxSVC.log file doesn't reveal anything helpful other than that the process stopped unexpectedly. Can you maybe rename your ${HOME}/.VirtualBox folder and then recreate your VM again? If vbox asks you for a hard drive simply use the exising one from your renamed .VirtualBox folder. In case the VM boots successfully in that constellation your original config files might be broken. That extra use may be emerge --info specific -- [binary N ~] app-emulation/virtualbox-4.1.18 USE="additions alsa extensions opengl pam qt4 -doc -headless -java -pulseaudio -python -sdk -vboxwebsrv -vnc" 0 kB Could there be any chance one of the patches might be causing problems? In the mean time, the binary package works fine. Maybe I should strip Graphite flags. Yes. It has to do with Graphite. If Virtualbox (not modules) is compiled with -fomit-frame-pointer -floop-interchange -floop-strip-mine -floop-block -fgraphite-identity, it starts giving problems with multiple CPUs. So, this should reopen. The problem persists with Virtualbox 4.2.2 I suggest stripping the Graphite use flag for all CPU after verifying that this bug persists with multiple CPUs. Well, usually we don't filter out specific CFLAGS because this is a nightmare to maintain. Just keep your collection of flags as small as possible. |
