Description tsuraan 2012-08-11 06:28:29 UTC
I'm trying to write an ebuild for repmgr, and it wants to write some files to the postgres bin dir (/usr/lib64/postgres-9.2/bin on my system). Collision protection is kicking in, saying that dir is owned by both postgresql-server and postgresql-base. I have no idea why any directory would be owned by any package, but the collision error seems pretty sure of itself.

Attempts to emerge my repmgr package fail with:

 * Detected file collision(s):
 *
 * 	/usr/lib64/postgresql-9.2/bin

Which isn't a file; it's a directory.

The result of portageq is:

bench1 ~ # portageq owners / /usr/lib64/postgresql-9.2/bin
dev-db/postgresql-server-9.2.0_beta2-r1
	/usr/lib64/postgresql-9.2/bin
dev-db/postgresql-base-9.2.0_beta2
	/usr/lib64/postgresql-9.2/bin

So somehow postgresql-server and postgresql-base can both write to that dir, but when I try, I get a collision error. Can I get some help tracking down what base and server did to share ownership, and how I can get my package in on that? I've been trying to find something obvious in the server and base ebuilds about creating/owning the bin dirs, but I haven't seen anything. Google also isn't helping me here, but maybe if I knew what to search on, I'd have better luck.

FWIW, emerge --info gives:

Portage 2.1.10.49 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.5.3, glibc-2.13-r4, 3.0.27 x86_64)

Maybe your ebuild causes the issue. Could you attach it, please?
Comment 2 Aaron W. Swenson gentoo-dev 2012-08-14 20:51:13 UTC
Yes, it's your ebuild that causes the issue. I've been working on it a bit, too, but the repmgr build system is currently broken, which they've admitted to.

I am considering including it in the PostgreSQL ebuilds.

You may contact me through email or IRC if you'd like to discuss this.
