/etc/init.d/apache2 reports following on restart:

 * This init script works only with openrc (baselayout-2).
 * If you still need baselayout-1.x, please, use
 * apache2.initd-baselayout-1 from /usr/share/doc/apache2-*/
 * Stopping apache2 ...

Try `/sbin/start-stop-daemon --help' for more information.

Problem is, there is NO /usr/share/doc/apache2-*/ nor /usr/share/doc/apache-2*/apache2.initd-baselayout-1 ... also, shouldn't you be able to identify the running baselayout automatically?

Forgot to mention: the newest stable version www-servers/apache-2.2.22-r1 does have this problem, which doesn't mean previous versions didn't.

baselayout-1 is completely dead for years
