In /usr/share/commons-cli/package.env

you need to put "" around the description otherwise env-update will bork.

also, you don't need the :'s around the CLASSPATH.

  What error do you get when you try to do env-update?  Can you include your emerge info here too?

A newer (stable x86) version of java-config fixes the parsing of this package.env file
