Bug 424982 – gnome-base/gconf-2.32.4 gconfd 100% CPU and writes GB to ~/.gconfd/saved_state

After emerge -e system and emerge -e world logging to gnome shows just a grey screen and just some apps start, nothing that needs gconf works. This is very similar to bug 411237 but affects stable gconf.
Top shows gconfd-2 filling up one cpu and constantly eating ram ,something like 2MB/s, after a while my /home partition was filled bt .gconfd/saved_state.

From lxterminal in lxde i can fire up some gnome apps, some of them raise CORBA errors

This is a known bug which a small subset of gconf users are unfortunately experiencing. As a workaround, try updating to gnome-base/gconf-3.2.5 with USE=-orbit.
