It seems to say that before upgrading glibc, you need to re-emerge sys-libs/readline and sys-devel/gcc, net-nds/openldap. Thanks Jeroen for the prompt reply. I have followed this forum :- http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-927668-highlight-emerge+syslibs+glibc.html and curently runninng (as we speak) : emerge -ve --keep-going system This seems to have kicked off the update and there are 175 updates (i know) happening. Half of what I dont even understand. I will do a revdep-rebuild once this completes. I will update accordingly. Pls let me know if I am doing something wrong. Hiya, So I did the update through:- emerge -ve --keep-going system And there were 175 updates (out o which 5 failed). And these files needs updating in et-update: SERVER temp # etc-update shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory chdir: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory Scanning Configuration files... The following is the list of files which need updating, each configuration file is followed by a list of possible replacement files. 1) /etc/DIR_COLORS (1) 2) /etc/login.defs (1) 3) /etc/rmt (1) 4) /etc/init.d/sshd (1) 5) /etc/pam.d/chgpasswd (1) 6) /etc/pam.d/chpasswd (1) 7) /etc/pam.d/login (1) 8) /etc/pam.d/passwd (1) 9) /etc/security/namespace.init (1) 10) /etc/ssh/sshd_config (1) Please select a file to edit by entering the corresponding number. (don't use -3, -5, -7 or -9 if you're unsure what to do) (-1 to exit) (-3 to auto merge all remaining files) (-5 to auto-merge AND not use 'mv -i') (-7 to discard all updates) (-9 to discard all updates AND not use 'rm -i'): 1 == Is it safe enough to overwrite? I have read that overwritin pam.d files stops the login after reboot? your system has old ssp. glibc correctly detected that. you must re-emerged packages yourself. not a bug in glibc. please seek general system assistance in the user channels: forums, irc, mailing lists, etc... Thanks spanky, I am trying to register for the forum for last 2 hous (lol). Username eithe exists or system generates an eror and says cotact moderator. Please if possible can I be registered and put password welcome (so that i can change later)? possible usernames:- nitish.anand nitish-anand nitish_anand baranwals vinashak nitishanand Many thx and please delete this comment once this is acheived. regards, Nitish. |
