getting an error in what i'm assuming is portage trying to emerge gnome (2.0):

This sounds like it was problem between portage and the mirror not having the
files yet (?)

It sounds like your system is not happy with a lot of stuff right nowm done and
emerge -ue world lately?

I'd agree on this, seems like an unhealthy portage.
