URL for newsitem on planet.gentoo.org is wrong. Does work on gentoo website (http://www.gentoo.org/news/20120608-x32_abi.xml )

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open http://planet.gentoo.org/universe/ 
2. go to "x32 ABI release candidates" 
2. click on the link for "x32 release candidate"
3. receive an 404 error message


Actual Results:  
404 - Not Found

Expected Results:  
Link to the actual destination.

nothing to do with planet. link works for me; it's likely that you were just hitting a mirror that the files hadn't propagated to yet.
