sci-geosciences/merkaartor-0.17.2 fails to build on my ~amd64 system. Due to the error message I think it is related to the new gpsd-API but I didn't test wether it works after downgrading gpsd fixes it.
Side note: Merkaartor-0.18 has been released ( http://merkaartor.be/news/30 ) but according to the ChangeLog there is no fix regarding gpsd in there.

I came across the same issue. A potential workaround is to merge it with USE="-gps" (Obviously, that's no good if you want the GPS functionality)

Also of note:
- Merging merkaartor-9999 exhibits the same problem
- Downloading the git source and compiling manually works fine (odd, because the 9999 ebuild uses that - haven't looked at this more yet)

Version is not in tree anymore.
