After emerging apache2 2.0.48-r1, I get the following error:
mars init.d # ./apache2 start
 * Starting apache2...
[Tue Feb 17 11:26:17 2004] [crit] (92)Protocol not available: make_sock: for address [::]:80, apr_socket_opt_set: (IPV6_V6ONLY)
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

I'm using gentoo release 1.4, nothing special about my installation (exactly from the install guide).  I'm not using IPv6, and I don't know why I'm getting IPv6 messages.
