This is very nitpicky but it would be nice if splat gave a warning if invoked as a normal users instead of: !!! Fatal: Unable to open '/var/log/emerge.log' Something more descriptive like: "You need to be root or a member of the portage group in order to use splat" might be more helpful.

1.invoke splat as regular user

3.

Actual Results:  
!!! Fatal: Unable to open '/var/log/emerge.log'

Expected Results:  
Given an error that describes what you should do (see above) in order to use splat
