When I was emerging gnome, the !!! ERROR: x11-libs/gtk+-2.2.4-r1 failed.  appeared towards the end, in my above forum post, it gives more information on what it was compiling before the error.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gnome

Actual Results:  
I got the error, as posted in the forum and above. ERROR: x11-libs/gtk+-2.2.4-r1
failed.

Expected Results:  
It should have compiled gnome and allowed me to execute it.

please don't post things in word documents, you should attach plain text logs to the bug instead. according to the reply of someone who was able to open the file, there was no error?

do:

emerge gtk+ 2>&1 | tee /tmp/gtk.log 

and then attach /tmp/gtk.log to this bug.

lower your cflags.

check if gdk-pixbuf-csource actually works (in your source dir)
