Have to make sure everything builds against it before just version bumping the library.  So far nothing I've tried has compiled correctly.

Well, media-gfx/freecad works with ode 0.12. The only reason I have ode installed. Can't say anything about other packages.

Seems to have updated now (thanks, Mr Bones!) but the ode-0.12.tar.bz2 on sourceforge mirrors does not match the one in Manifest.

should be fixed up on the mirrors soon.  upstream regenerated files with a newer automake.
